Grain drying

Column dryers, drying bins, mobile dryers, channels and biomass heating for farms and industrial sites

Reducing grain moisture while preserving quality

Grain drying plays an essential role in preserving, securing and enhancing the value of the harvest. The objective is not only to remove moisture from the grain, but to do so with controlled temperature, good air distribution and optimised energy consumption.  GGS designs drying solutions adapted to the type of grain, the moisture content at intake, the daily drying volume, the available energy and the organisation of the site. Depending on requirements, the installation may include column dryers, drying bins, mobile dryers, aeration floors, stirring systems or biomass hot air production.

Adapting the drying technology to the harvest rhythm

Each site has different constraints: moisture at harvest, daily tonnage, harvest window, type of fuel available, storage capacity, site layout constraints and existing handling equipment. GGS supports the selection of the most suitable process according to operating priorities: continuous drying for intensive harvest periods, batch drying for more flexible management, low-temperature drying in a drying bin, mobile dryers for seasonal needs, or biomass heating to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The objective is to secure reliable, homogeneous drying that remains simple to operate during periods of high activity.

From high-capacity dryers to low-temperature drying systems

Depending on the product, moisture content and site organisation, several solutions can be studied:

  • Continuous drying for high daily throughputs,
  • Batch drying for phased harvesting or multiple crops,
  • Low-temperature drying to preserve grain quality,
  • Mobile dryers for seasonal or occasional needs,
  • Channels and stirring systems to improve airflow and drying homogeneity,
  • Biomass heater to reduce energy costs.

Each solution is selected to find the right balance between

Our drying solutions

Column dryers

Column dryers are designed to provide reliable and homogeneous drying across a wide range of cereals. Available for continuous or batch operation, they are suited to installations requiring high drying capacity, controlled energy consumption and performance during harvest period.

Key benefits:

  • Drying of all types of produce, including oilseeds and seed for sowing
  • Drying capacity from 50 to 1,000 tonnes per 24 hours
  • Automatic monitoring equipment
  • Installed power rating designed to be as low as possible
  • Low risk of internal corrosion thanks to pre-coated galvanised sheet metal

Drying bins

Drying bins combine low-temperature drying with a mechanical grain stirring system. This solution helps preserve grain quality while ensuring good drying homogeneity. It is suited to flexible harvest operations and can also be used as a storage silo after drying.

Key benefits:

  • Grain quality preserved through low-temperature drying
  • Autonomous system requiring minimum surveillance
  • High drying capacity, from 84 to 595 tonnes, with cycle durations from 1.6 to 5.8 days
  • Mechanical stirring system that improves drying performance by homogenising the stored grain

Mobile grain dryers

Mobile dryers provide flexible drying capacity for farms and sites with seasonal requirements. Easy to move and adapt to different volumes, they can process various grain types with an autonomous, practical solution suited to harvest constraints.

Key benefits:

  • Intake hopper: 700 x 800 mm
  • Perforated walls and smooth stainless-steel bottom
  • Different drive options: PTO, PTO+ or electric
  • Fuel oil or LPG burner
  • 2 ranges: BIODRY and TURBODRY

Aeration channels

Aeration channels distribute air through the grain mass to improve drying and ventilation. Made of galvanised sheet metal, they are designed to resist heavy loads and integrate into installations intended for cereals, oilseeds or other agricultural products.

Key benefits:

  • 4 different depths: 180, 300, 400 and 500 mm
  • Highly resistant, with reinforcement angle bars
  • Slotted grilles: cereals, rapeseed, maize, grasses, etc.
  • Oblong-hole grilles: bulbs and tubers
  • Round-hole grilles: cereals in drying bins
  • Closed grilles: channel ends

LM PowerMix mixing auger

The LM PowerMix mixing auger improves on-floor drying through continuous mechanical stirring. By mixing wet grain with grain already being dried, it homogenises the grain mass, improves air circulation and reduces manual intervention during drying.

Key benefits:

  • Uniform drying through mechanical stirring
  • Equipped with 2 augers
  • Working height from 2.5 to 3 metres, for bays from 4 to 12 metres
  • Labour savings, with no need for continuous monitoring
  • Time savings, with continuous operation

Biomass heater

The biomass heater produces hot air for grain drying using renewable energy, such as woodchips or pellets. It provides an alternative to fossil fuels to reduce energy costs, stabilise hot air production and improve the overall efficiency of drying installations.

Key benefits:

  • Up to 60% savings on fuel purchases
  • Versatile solution with hot air generator and biomass-fuelled air/air exchanger
  • Control cabinet with PLC and touchscreen
  • Drying capacity from 581 to 1,400 kW, with 85% yield
